Biography

 

Background: 

Born in Taos, NM and raised in Costilla, NM (a small town in northern New Mexico) until I graduated from High School in 1966.  Married Annabelle Vigil in 1967.  Have two daughters Nadine Cordova and Valerie Vigil, one son-in-law Sammy Cordova and three grandchildren, Brandon, Jared and Amanda.

 

Education:

Adams State College, Alamosa, CO.   Received BA degree with a double Major in Business and Secondary Education, 1971.Graduate courses from University of New Mexico and Highland University.

 Work Experience

        Bilingual Education Teacher, 1971-1973, Questa Independent School District, Questa, NW.

         Merchandising Manager, 1973-1976, SS Kresge, K-Mart.

         Business & Clerical Instructor, 1976-1979, SER/Job for Progress.

         Business Instructor, Business Program Supervisor, Dean of Student Services, 1979-1985, Parks College.

         Sales and Use Tax Auditor, Sales Tax Supervisor, Revenue Manager, 1985-1995, City of Northglenn.

         Adams 12 Five Star School District, District Custodial Coordinator, responsible for the coordination of 147 employees whose jobs
         were to clean and maintain 3.1 million square ft., 1997-1999.

 Private Practice

 Vigil & Company, 1971-Present, Accounting and Income Tax preparation, Real Estate and Loan Origination.

 Elected Offices

      Elected to the State House of Representatives 1998, Re-elected in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

  • 1st term , served on the Finance and Appropriations Committees,
  •  2nd term, served on the Information and Technology, Finance, Appropriations and Legislative Audit Committees.
  • 3rd term, served on the Finance, Education, and Vice Chair of the Legislative Audit Committees,
  • 4th term, serving on the Finance (Chair), Appropriations, and Legislative Audit Committees.
  • Elected Assistant Minority Leader on August 8, 2003
  • Member of the 2002 Congressional redistricting sub-committee.
  • Served as Chairman of Legislative Audit Committee for a year and half.
  • Have been appointed to the Council of State Governments West all four sessions by four different Speakers
  • Chaired the Colorado Association of Municipal Tax Auditors for over three years
  • Chaired the Colorado Municipal Leagues Sales Tax Simplification Tax Force.
